Linux Administration

bannerServers

Linux is a UNIX-like operating system based on the Linux kernel. It is a prominent example of free and open source software collaboration, and is known for its stability and security. A typical Linux server can run for years without a single reboot, wherein a Windows server would require a reboot at least once every week or month, to retain stability. It is highly recommended for large companies to run their critical applications on a Linux server.

Backups

Backing up your data should be one of the top priorities on your agenda. You need to be ready in case something disastrous were to happen, whether it be a malicious intruder looking to delete your sensitive data, or a general hard drive failure. Having a backup on hand, or on a remote server, is crucial to your organization's viability. We can help you set up daily nightly backups to a local directory, or a remote backup server (recommended).

Failover

In the event of a network outage or system failure, it is wise to have a remote server ready with a mirrored backup of your local server's files. We have set up numerous failover systems in which a local server detects it is offline, a remote host starts up its services, updates a DNS server to point to itself, and traffic is automatically redirected to the offsite host -- within a matter of seconds. This process will be triggered automatically in the event of an outage, and will be transparent to the end user. The option to replicate your databases is also recommended, and will happen in real time.

Disaster Recovery

With all your data backed up, we will provide the appropriate training on retrieval. In the event of failover, things may become a bit more complicated, but we have scripts written to automatically restore from an outage and revert any DNS or redirects in the event the local host becomes operable again.

E-mail Server

Ever dreamed of having an e-mail address like yourname@yourcompany.com? Or have a mail server setup already but want it improved and secured? We're sure we can help! With years of mail server experience including spam detection/removal, virus checking, profanity filtering, security, and archiving, we're certain to provide you with an efficient mail server configuration tailored to your business needs, accompanied with the training necessary to monitor.

E-Mail Server Security

There are two main concerns with unsolicited commercial e-mail (spam). The first is the general annoyance of the unwanted mail. The second, is to stop spammers from using your mail server as a relay gateway. An unsecured mail server can be used by spammers as a relay for their mail. This causes unnecessary overhead on your network with all the mail piping through your system, as well as the possibility of placing your server on a black list. Some organizations deny and bounce back mail that resides on such a black list, causing loss in communication and even revenue.

Spam Protection

We are fluent in the structure of e-mails. We can drastically reduce the amount of spam you receive with custom rules tailored specifically to your business needs that software major organizations can't provide. This will require monitoring of your mail for some to analyze specific trends so that no false positives are implemented.

E-Mail Archiving

Archiving e-mail is crucial for retrieving information and to track conversations between your employees and clients. E-mails can later be filtered and recovered for analysis.

Server Customizations

The possibilities are endless. We have seen organizations that want to limit profanity used in e-mail, and bounce them back to the sender, CC'ing management. Another organization may want to limit the number of recipients on a particular e-mail, as an e-mail with a 10 MB attachment destined to 50 recipients may cause a temporary network outage. The possibilities are endless and implementable.
